As of now, business travellers are not required to get themselves enlisted with the Foreigners Regional Registration Officer (FRRO)/Foreigners Registration Officer (FRO) concerned in the event that they have entered India on a long term visa provided their continuous stay in India does not surpass 180 days.

In any case, if they stay for over 180 days, he/she ought to get himself/herself enrolled or registered well before the expiry of 180 days from the date of arrival with the FRRO/FRO concerned.

There might be some adjustment/revision of this standard and the foreign investors would not be required to visit FRRO regardless of the fact that the stay period crosses 180 days, sources said.

According to the current guidelines, all outsiders (counting foreigners of Indian origin) visiting India on long term (over 180 days) Student Visa, Medical Visa, Research Visa and Employment Visa are required to get themselves enlisted with the FRRO/FRO concerned having jurisdiction over the place where the outsider expects to stay, within 14 days of arrival.

But, Pakistan nationals are required to enlist inside of 24 hours of their landing. All Afghan nationals are required to enlist with the FRRO/FRO worried within 14 days of arrival aside from those Afghan nationals who enter India on a visa legitimate for 30 days or less gave the Afghan national concerned gives his/her residential address to the Indian Mission/FRRO/FRO.
